Welcome to the BLUE EAGLE Universe!

This is the home of Blue Eagle, Switch the Blue Eaglet, and the other superheroes (and supervillains) of Herald City.

What is Herald City? A city, of course. More to the point, it’s a city where people with superhuman abilities are commonplace. Criminals seek to exploit the innocent and supervillains plot to boil the world’s oceans, summon black holes in the Earth’s core, or rob banks with their bank-robbing androids. Time travelers alter history here, interdimensional beings pass through, and alien warlords try to conquer it. And through it all, superheroes don their masks and capes and fight to protect it from evil!

While there are many heroes out there having adventures worthy of telling about, the main focus of my stories are Blue Eagle, one of the city’s many superheroes, and his kid sidekick, Switch the Blue Eaglet. Together, they fight an entire Rogues’ Gallery of enemies that include the technology wizard Technomancer, the gravity-defying Gravitational Paul, the powerful Red Hawk, the unnerving Poster Boy, and the impenetrable ForceField. Of course, they all pale in comparison to the threat posed by Blue Eagle’s archenemy, the plant-manipulating matriarch known as Queen Venus.

There are two primary continuities that my stories take place in, unrelated to each other. My main series is SWITCH and the Challengers Bravo, which stars Switch as he becomes a leader of a group of teen heroes, the titular Challengers Bravo. Most of my works take place in this continuity and world. The series itself is inspired by anime-inspired American cartoons like Avatar: The Last Airbender and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, as well as the lyrics, song titles, and imagery of symphonic metal bands such as Nightwish and Epica. It’s not a darker take on the genre—it’s certainly appropriate for younger teens, at least—but it’s certainly not afraid to balance real world themes with the fantastic and push the boundaries without going into blood and gore territory.

And then there’s The Adventures of BLUE EAGLE, which is a lighthearted introduction into the world of Blue Eagle. Inspired heavily by 1960s Filmation and Hannah-Barbera superhero cartoons such as The Adventures of Batman and the 1967 Teen Titans, this short story anthology seeks to recreate their kid-friendly atmosphere with episodic tales that introduce my heroes and villains in a different light. I actually conceived of this idea after my main series but wrote and published it first. I always loved more “realistic” and modern superhero tales, but my love of them greatly increases when being able to contrast them against what came before. Seeing the goofy 1950s Joker makes me appreciate Mark Hamill’s version more. So since my main series followed Switch after becoming his own superhero, I wanted to see what Blue Eagle and Switch’s adventures together would look like in a story that allows me to lean into all that without burdening myself with future continuity. And here were are. This series takes place in its own separate continuity, like the aforementioned 1968 The Adventures of Batman takes place in a different continuity from the 2003 Teen Titans.

A shadow-hopping martial artist with anxiety issues. A confident computer expert with a borrowed power suit. A silly alien that can transform into any mammal she can imagine. And a leader with disappearing powers and something to prove.

Switch is no longer a sidekick. As part of the SPIRE Institute, he must lead a team of teenage superheroes to defend Herald City from the endless supervillain schemes that threaten it. But will he and his teammates—Moon Shadow, Bionic Boy, and Animalady—have what it takes to face down and overcome the greatest threats the city, planet, and more have ever faced?

Find out in SWITCH and the Challengers Bravo!

Before he was the leader of his own team, he was the sidekick. And his greatest challenge? Family.

One year before the series SWITCH and the Challengers Bravo, Switch the Blue Eaglet is the sidekick to his father, Blue Eagle. But things are not good as nothing he does seems to diminish the ire he receives from the veteran superhero. Can the two put their fundamental differences aside in time to stop their archenemy, Queen Venus, from enacting her most sinister plan yet?
